These A4 surname histories (origin and meaning) are available in the A4 size (297mm x 210mm or 11.75 x 8.25 inches) or the US Letter (11 x 8.5 inches) size as a download. They are created with an aged ancient background in high quality and are supplied ready for framing either printed or as a high quality downloadable and printable product.

These surname histories with the associated coat of arms (sometimes called a family crest) will normally include the following:

• The coat of arms most associated with the surname (unless otherwise stated).
• The coat of arms country of origin (if known) can be specified when ordering.
• The motto (if one exists) in its original language (i.e. Latin or French) with English translation.
• If a crest (the smaller image above the helmet) exists for the coat of arms this will be used instead of the generic feather plumes.
• The armory it was taken from (Burke’s General Armory or Rietstap’s Armorial General).

All coats of arms (and crests) are carefully researched and checked from multiple sources to ensure that the one you receive is the correct one for the surname given.

The surname history text from us will normally include known spelling variants of the surname, the origin and meaning of the name, along with the earliest known recordings of the name and the documents they appear in (if known), often starting from the 11th or 12th centuries.

Examples of the surname and documents they appear in (or where they were mentioned) will normally go from the earliest known recording up to the years 1600-1800. These are created by us and are unique to us.

Whenever a situation arises where we are unable to create a surname origin and meaning, a coat of arms (family crest) may be available for the surname, so you may want to order a coat of arms product for the name instead.

If doing this, and if required, please mention in the order comments box that this is a coat of arms because there wasn’t any surname history available and we will include an extra line or two of text underneath the coat of arms image (with the heraldic description) with the limited information if we have any (normally spelling variants, origin, and what the surname means) at no extra charge.
