FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions for On This Day in History Scrolls and Greetings Cards

Question: I’ve seen greetings cards similar to this in greeting card shops and other places, are they the same thing?
Answer: The cards you may have seen in shops will normally only provide information for the year in question.

The scrolls and cards we provide are personalised with the recipient’s name, the day, month, and year of the event, and the name of the event in question. This means that birth date scrolls and cards also include their horoscope sign, the actual day of their birth and the name of the gemstone associated with their horoscope sign. So the scrolls and cards from us are fully personalised and printed by us with the details you provide us with. They are not ‘off-the-shelf‘ pre-printed products.

Question: What type of paper are the On This Day in History scrolls and greetings cards printed on?
Answer: Scrolls are printed on high quality plain white thick paper or thin card and greeting cards are printed on glossy high quality folded card intended to be used as a greetings card. The greeting cards also include an envelope.

Question: Are there any messages printed inside the greeting cards?
Answer: No, these are left completely blank for your own message.

Question: How long is the order process for the On This Day in History scrolls and greeting cards?
Answer: Orders for these are processed within the same timeframe as our other printed and digital products.

Question: Can I specify any date for On This Day in History scrolls and greeting cards?
Answer: You can enter any date from 1 January 1900 up to the present day. No information is available for dates prior to 1 Jan 1900.

Some details on your scroll or greetings card will show a comparison between the event date and year and the present-day date, so event dates based on present day dates will have less or no comparisons. Also, the Sporting Winners section may contain less or no information for present day event dates.

Question: Which year should I enter in the date?
Answer: Short answer: the past event date/year should be given. Longer answer: On This Day in History scrolls and greeting cards are normally intended for past events/years, but they can be used for upcoming events and dates.

For example, if someone is born on 10 August 1980, the historical information given will normally relate to events for the year 1980 as well as events for 10 August (for various years up to the present year). If the event date given is in the future, it can effect the type of information given (i.e. there will be no cost of living comparison between 1980 and the current year, instead the current prices will be used).

Also, if an On This Day in History product is ordered earlier in the year and the event date is for the same year, very little, or no information for the current year will be available. These sections won’t be empty, but they won’t reflect the current year the same as if the event date was in the past.

Question: What sort of personalisation is included in the scrolls and cards?
Answer: These include the name(s) of the recipient(s), the event date (i.e. birth date, wedding date, christening date or date for other events) and you can select a country which provides some details related to that country, for example, currency and sporting events for that year specific to the country chosen.

You may specify the ‘other‘ event type when ordering, for example, this could be the date of someone’s first job,  first (or last!) day at school, graduation, start of a business, or anything else you wish. We have included images showing all the different styles available. Please see the On This Day in History product page for details of what information is needed to order these scrolls and greetings cards.

Question: Why are there different regions/countries listed on the order form, and what do they mean?
Answer: Our scrolls and greetings cards will provide some information related to the region/country specified. This will determine the details shown in the Sporting Winners section.

For example, choosing England will show the winning team in the English FA Cup Final for that year, Grand National and Derby Winners, etc. If you choose Scotland this will show the Scottish FA Cup winning team, or if you choose USA it will show sporting winners for Baseball and US Open Golf winners for that year. Specifying a country will also show the Cost of Living comparisons in the appropriate currency.
